Job Title: Data Scientist (Junior/Mid-Level) Location: Sofia, Bulgaria Department: Machine Learning Reports To: Head of Machine Learning Department Employment Type: Full-Time Working Model: Hybrid ________________________________________ About Us MFG is a group of fintech companies whose mission is to provide easy access to finance and insurance for everyone regardless of their current social and financial condition. The group is active in seven European countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, North Macedonia, Spain and Croatia, and one Latin American market – Mexico. The planned large-scale geo-expansion includes key international markets such as Latin America, India, and USA. The main focus of MFG is to offer fintech products for individuals and small and medium-sized businesses. The companies in the group have active registrations and licenses for various regulated activities - lending, postal money orders, payment services and issuance of electronic money, general insurance, which are issued by the relevant supervisory institutions. ________________________________________ Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and curious Junior/Mid-Level Data Scientist to join our growing Machine Learning department. In this role, you'll support the design and implementation of machine learning models, conduct data analysis, and contribute to projects that directly impact our products and customer experience. This is a great opportunity to learn from experienced data professionals while developing your own expertise in a fast-paced fintech environment. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities
- Assist in building, testing, and maintaining predictive models and machine learning algorithms
- Work with complex financial datasets to extract insights and support decision-making
- Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) and feature engineering
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and analysts to understand business needs
- Communicate findings clearly through dashboards, reports, and presentations
- Participate in data validation, quality checks, and continuous model monitoring
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging data science techniques
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in data science or machine learning (internships or academic projects welcome)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and modeling
- Experience with SQL and working with relational databases
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms (e.g., Logistic Regression, Random Forest, XGBoost, etc.)
- Understanding of statistical concepts and data visualization techniques
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- English language proficiency: B2 level
- Bulgarian language proficiency: B2 level
- Internship or academic project experience in the machine learning field
- Experience with unstructured data
