Zenteli Ltd. is looking to hire an experienced and accomplished Financial Controller to work in close collaboration with our primary partner, the Semrad Law Firm. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, designed for a professional with a proven track record in financial management who is ready to take ownership of key processes and contribute at a senior level.
The Semrad Law Firm (also known as DebtStoppers) is a leading bankruptcy law firm based in Chicago. We help individuals and families get a fresh financial start—and behind the scenes, our finance team keeps everything running.
We’re looking for a Temporary Controller or CPA to cover maternity leave (approx. 12 months). This is a hands-on role where you’ll manage the firm’s finances, payroll, reporting, and compliance, working closely with our leadership team.
What You’ll Do
Banking & Cash Management
Monitor daily bank accounts, payments, and transfers Reconcile transactions and review ACH/Check Positive Pay Prepare cash flow budgets and financial projections Payroll & Compensation
Process payroll via Insperity (salary changes, bonuses, reimbursements, severance, etc.) Audit bonuses and reimbursements Accounts Payable / Receivable
Audit invoices (e.g., property comps, Allen Credit) Submit EFT forms, issue checks and refunds Communicate with vendors Oversee AR team results Compliance & Reporting
Monthly bank reconciliations 401(k) submissions and year-end reporting/audits Internal P&L and expense audits Quarterly P&Ls by state W-9 and 1099 submissions Case-Level Audits
Audit bankruptcy cases as needed What We’re Looking For
CPA or experienced Controller (law firm or bankruptcy experience is a plus) Previous experience with QuickBooks, Tableau, and Insperity is a plus Strong knowledge of payroll, cash management, compliance, and reporting 5+ years of accounting/finance experience Strong eye for detail, great with deadlines, and comfortable in a fast-paced legal environment Able to explain financials clearly to non-finance colleagues
