Job Purpose

The SAP BASIS Consultant is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and technical support of the on-premise SAP S/4HANA landscape, running on the SAP HANA database. The role ensures system stability, performance, availability, and security across development, quality, and production environments, and acts as the technical bridge between the S/4HANA application, the HANA database, and the underlying infrastructure. As part of the internal business process team, the consultant also administers the HANA database and SAP authorizations.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, upgrade, and patch the SAP S/4HANA landscape and related components (Fiori, Gateway, Solution Manager).

Administer and monitor S/4HANA systems, including instances, work processes, buffers, and system performance.

Administer the SAP HANA database — backup and recovery, memory and storage management, table partitioning, and performance tuning.

Perform client administration, transport management (TMS), and system copies/refreshes.

Manage SAP user administration, roles, and authorizations, including integration with Single Sign-On and identity providers.

Apply SAP Notes, Support Packages, and kernel upgrades; plan S/4HANA upgrades using Maintenance Planner and Software Update Manager (SUM).

Administer SAP Fiori / Gateway (the S/4HANA user interface layer) and SAP Cloud Connector where cloud connectivity is required.

Configure and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/restore procedures for S/4HANA and HANA.

Perform performance tuning, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting of technical incidents.

Manage system security, including patching, hardening, and compliance with security policies.

Support SAP interfaces (RFC, IDoc, Web Services) and connectivity with third-party systems.

Maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, and change/incident records.

Provide 2nd/3rd level technical support and participate in maintenance windows and on-call as required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

3+ years of hands-on experience in SAP BASIS administration.

Strong knowledge of SAP NetWeaver architecture and SAP S/4HANA (on-premise).

Hands-on experience administering the SAP HANA database (backup/recovery, monitoring, tuning).

Solid understanding of Linux server administration (the standard OS for S/4HANA on-premise).

Experience with transport management, system copies, and S/4HANA upgrades/patching (SUM, Maintenance Planner).

Experience with SAP user administration and authorizations (roles and profiles).

Working knowledge of networking, security, and IT infrastructure concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP S/4HANA System Administration.

Experience with SAP HANA high availability and disaster recovery setups.

Exposure to SAP Solution Manager, SAP Fiori, and SAP Cloud Connector.

Scripting skills (Shell, Python) and automation tooling.

Experience with monitoring tools and ITSM/ITIL processes.

SAP Services Managed and Utilized

SAP operations are kept in-house within the internal business process team. The consultant is responsible for administering the S/4HANA landscape while managing and making use of the services procured directly from SAP:

SAP Enterprise / Standard Support — maintaining the support entitlement and applying SAP Notes, Support Packages, and kernel patches obtained through it.

SAP for Me / SAP Support Portal — downloading software, managing system data (SID registration, license keys, maintenance certificates), and raising and tracking incidents with SAP.

SAP Solution Manager / SAP Cloud ALM — operating application lifecycle management, monitoring, change and transport control, and test management.

License and subscription maintenance — ensuring active maintenance/subscription so the organization remains entitled to updates and support.

SAP Learning Hub — staying current on patches, upgrades, and certifications relevant to the landscape.

Premium engagement (Preferred Care / MaxAttention), where applicable — coordinating with SAP experts beyond standard support for critical systems.
