Risk Engineer – Retail Risk

We are looking for a motivated Risk Engineer to join our Retail Risk – Lending Process Automation team. In this role, you will contribute to the development and optimization of the bank’s automated decision-making platform used in retail lending.

You will work at the intersection of risk management, data, and technology, helping to implement credit risk strategies and ensure efficient, consistent, and scalable lending decisions.

A key part of the role involves designing and maintaining decision logic in the bank’s decision engine, collaborating closely with Risk, IT, and data teams.

Your Responsibilities

Implement change requests provided by Business Analysts/Product Owners and collaborate with Risk and IT teams to identify the most efficient technical solution

Modify and maintain rules, scorecards, champion–challenger strategies, and other decision logic elements in the bank’s loan approval decision engine

Design, develop, test, and deploy updates to automated credit decision strategies

Perform functional and technical testing of implemented changes to ensure reliability and accuracy

Maintain proper documentation and change logs for all strategy updates

Monitor and analyze decision engine performance and propose optimizations to improve efficiency and risk outcomes

Participate in the integration of new data sources, technologies, and analytical tools into the loan approval workflow

Support and advise Risk colleagues on topics related to decision automation and the decision engine

Represent Retail Risk in major IT infrastructure, integration, and transformation projects

Contribute to the continuous improvement of lending decision processes and automation frameworks

We Are Looking For

University degree in a technical or business-related field (Business Informatics, Information Technology, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or similar)

2+ years of professional experience in Risk Technology, Software Development, Decision Systems, or Algorithm Engineering

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Experience working with SQL and the ability to query, analyze, and manipulate data in MS SQL or Oracle databases

Understanding of database architecture principles

Ability to translate business requirements into technical implementations

Strong communication skills in English and Bulgarian (written and spoken)

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams

Fast learner with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and competing priorities

Nice to have:

Experience with SAS, Python, or R

Experience with decision engines or business rule management systems

Knowledge of retail lending processes and the lifecycle of credit products

Experience working with risk models, scorecards, or credit decision strategies
